Pencils for a new side painting. I’d be happy if I could make a career out of cheesecake drawings. So many cheesecake drawings.Tags: #WIP #sketch
A piece for illustrators Anna Rose & Jenny Zych's Strange Paradise asian-horror zine coming out this spring! “Tomie” (Junji Ito) was my first real introduction into j-horror and a stepping stone into the eroguro stuff I’m very fond of now.

My contribution to the /CREEPYTHREAD book being put together by Jensine Eckwall and Peter Schmidt. My focus was on recurring Japanese urban legends and creepy stories revolving around elevators - you can read some of them (along with many other translated creepy tales) here.
The speculation of “what lies beyond the door” has remained ubiquitous in almost all creepy tales around the globe, or rather the idea of the unknown “gateway.” My image is derived from numerous creepy stories originating from the Japanese 2ch, all revolving around elevators.
It began with one creepy tale of a man, who after taking an elevator ride with several residents in his apartment building, is transported to a floor where the light from the windows are red and all is silent. In all the stories revolving around it, the elevator leads to a place that is familiar, yet disturbingly “off” - those who choose to get off at these floors never appear again.
More stories and rituals revolving around elevators began to appear. Stories of elevators leading to floors that don’t exist. Elevators leading to alternate dimensions and parallel universes. Well-known rituals revolving around reaching another world through an elevator. The mystery of the enclosed elevator, where there is very little control once it is in motion, seems to lend itself to the idea of the elevator being a site for the warping of time and space itself. The man in original story ends his account by saying, “The stairs are ‘continuous with the ground’ so I won’t have to worry about suddenly finding myself transported to another world without noticing it. But the elevator is different. That thing is a gateway to another world.”
/CREEPYTHREAD will debut at MoCCAfest 2014 along with Brooklyn Zine Fest, TCAF, and SPX!
